St. Peter’s wants to be A Light for Beaufort, sharing Christ's light to those around us. As Jesus taught us in the Gospels, if we love him, we will want to serve him in those in need. (Matt 25:31-46)
The St. Peter’s Service Committee is a team of parishioners working to coordinate and foster volunteer service among our parishioners. The Committee coordinates the service efforts of our various parish organizations, as well as educates parishioners about opportunities for service in our local community.
Since November 2018, St. Peter's has begun to tithe 10% of weekend collections to bear fruit outside of our parish walls. Half of this tithe goes towards to serving those in need. The Service Committee is charged with researching and recommending to our pastor the best way to use these funds. Our recent gifts can be found in the sidebar.
Our Mission: To help coordinate and foster St. Peter’s parishioners in exercising the Corporal Works of Mercy.
We will focus on distributing our parish’s service tithes in the spirit Christian teaching and the Corporal Works of Mercy: Feeding the Hungry, Giving Drink to the Thirsty, Sheltering the Homeless, Clothing the Naked, Visiting Prisoners*, Visiting the Sick, Burying the Dead.
*Our Lord's directive to visit those in prison (ransom the captive): The Service Committee considers this mandate to include ransoming those captive to ignorance through education.
Monthly meetings are held the first Monday of the month at St. Peter's. If you have a tithe idea, volunteer opportunity, or other suggestion for the Service Committee, let us know by contacting the chair at service@stpetersbeaufort.org.
Service Committee members participate in at least one of three sub-committees:
The Service Committee developed vetting and funding protocols to determine eligibility and understand the connection between a charities’ mission and an associated Work(s) of Mercy. Our goal is to ensure that charities recommended are in line with Catholic social justice teaching, demonstrate fiscal stability, and make a significant impact in the community.
The Service Committee seeks out worthy charities, especially on the local level. No request is too small for consideration by St. Peter’s. We want to share our faith and hope with those in need. We want everyone to know that each person is important to us.
For more information on the application process, please click here.
To recommend a charity you would like the committee to consider, please contact the Tithing Subcommittee at tithe@stpetersbeaufort.org.
For more information on how you can be involved, or if you have any other questions or suggestions, please contact the current Chairperson at service@stpetersbeaufort.org.
